Dietitian App

References, Sources & Methods

This page summarises the key references, datasets, and source materials used to support the Dietitian App’s calculators, growth-tracking tools, diet-history features, clinical formulary, and educational content.

Clinical disclaimer

The Dietitian App is designed to support dietetic practice, education, and clinical reasoning. It does not replace professional judgement, individual clinical assessment, local policies, manufacturer instructions, or medical advice.

Calculations, reference ranges, food composition data, growth references, and product information should be interpreted in clinical context and checked against the current primary source where they are used for patient care or decision-making.

Calculators

The calculators and supporting information are based on recognised Australian and New Zealand nutrient reference resources, with formulas implemented in the app where applicable.

NRV Summary Tables

Eat for Health

Summary tables used to support structured NRV implementation.

Diet history and food composition data

Food search, diet-history, and nutrient-analysis features use Australian food and nutrient datasets where implemented within the app.

AUSNUT 2023

Food Standards Australia New Zealand

Australian survey food and nutrient dataset supporting food search and dietary analysis.

AUSNUT 2023 Data Files

Food Standards Australia New Zealand

Underlying AUSNUT datasets used for food and nutrient calculations.

AUSNUT Foods and Nutrients

Food Standards Australia New Zealand

Food nutrient values used to support diet-history nutrient analysis.

AUSNUT Food Measures

Food Standards Australia New Zealand

Food composition data attribution and limitations

Food composition data used in the Dietitian App are provided to support dietary analysis and clinical reasoning. Where Australian food composition datasets are used, they should be interpreted with awareness of their scope, limitations, and applicable licence terms.

  • Attribution: Australian food composition data are sourced from Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), where applicable.
  • Food composition values are estimates or average values derived from foods and ingredients sampled at particular points in time. Nutrient composition can vary between brands, batches, seasons, processing methods, ingredient sources, and methods of calculation.
  • Australian food composition data are based on Australian foods and may not be appropriate for use in other countries.
  • The Dietitian App does not imply endorsement by FSANZ.
  • Licence terms for each dataset should be checked and retained as the app’s food database functionality expands.

Growth tracking and anthropometry

Growth charts, centiles, and z-score calculations are based on recognised paediatric growth references and LMS data files where implemented in the app.

CDC Growth Charts

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Reference growth chart information for children and adolescents.

Formulary and nutrition product information

The clinical formulary is compiled from publicly available manufacturer product information, product webpages, specification sheets, and other official product materials where available.

  • Product composition, pack sizes, availability, and indications may change over time.
  • Users should check current manufacturer documentation where exact product details are required for clinical decision-making.

Biochemistry and clinical reference information

Biochemistry content is provided as clinical support information and should be interpreted alongside current local pathology reference intervals, guidelines, and patient-specific clinical context.

  • Reference intervals may differ between laboratories and populations.
  • Clinical interpretation should always be made in the context of the whole patient assessment.

Source maintenance

This references page should be reviewed and updated whenever a new calculator, dataset, growth reference, formulary source, or clinical content area is added to the app.
